The result of this project is a 24bit digital sample library of an acoustic drum kit, featuring  sixteen authentic drum sounds, recorded using six professional microphones. This equates to 96 variations of the kit, with a velocity resolution of up to 60 samples per drum, giving thousands of immediate combinations of tone.  The kit is split into sixteen separate groups, each group consisting of 6 keys, beginning at the key C0. each key represents a unique microphone position.

Detailed velocity layering combined with individual onboard FX such as bit reduction, distortion and a midi modulator allow for extra modulation of the library to imitate a range of tones from the base set of sounds.

Drum grouping layout: Fitting Multiple microphone positions per half octave

How appealing is this concept compared t

"I liked the authentic style the drums have to it which means this hasn't been heavily processed. Being able to customize the drums the way I want it to sound was not an issue and left for room for customizing as I have more room to play around with the sounds even within its programme with volume control and then controlling it even more within my daw options".

A total of seven musically orientated individuals used and tested the sample library over a week. The diagrams highlight a generally positive user experience early on in the project. This feedback also revealed bugs in the instrument with velocity sensitivity and issues with the GUI. These were able to be rectified and monitored early on in the project thanks to the third party feedback the survey provided.

The sample library was reviewed and subject to an anonymous survey to gain insightful feedback on how the result could be improved.

Third-party users commended the natural sound of the library and its unique approach to incorporating multiple microphone positions at the touch of a fingertip.
